I could run remote sessions with X by setting the DISPLAY environment variable. Does Wayland support something like this?

Do you want to display a remote X client in a local Wayland session or a remote Wayland application on a local X server?

I often run an X server on my laptop to serve as display for an X based FPGA synthesis tool running on a big Athlon machine. Not practical at the moment , but was wondering if similar capabilities were available under Wayland.
