@thagrol Are there any tutorials for carrying out an installation as you recommended ?Well you could always role you own. It's not that hard:You'd probably lack some of the fancy bits you'd get with a paid for Volumio or Plex box but you get what you pay for
- RPiOS lite (or Desktop with auto login to the desktop disabled)
- MPD for local playback or shairportsync (or whatever it has been forked/renamed as) for multiroom synced audio
- Your choice of MPD client running or your choice of device for control.
- miniDLNA for smart devices
- Samba if you want file access to down/up load files.
I'm not aware of any but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
mpd, mpc (the linux command line client for mpd), and miniDLNA are in the repo so can be installed via apt. IIRC they all have documentation on their websites.
My guide to Building A Pi Based NAS will help you with the Samba setup.
If you need to run custom programs/scripts at system start you my find one of my other guides useful: Running A Program At Start Up A Beginner's Guide
If you're planning on running Bookworm you may want to switch from pipewire to pulse audio (only needed if doing the following step).
If you want audio but don't want a user automatically logged in (audio isn't started until a user logs in and then only for that user) you'll want to run pulse audio as a system wide daemon: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwa ... ystemWide/
