Hello,

I'm not an expert in optics, so not quite sure what is going on yet... For a simple lens we'd expect IR to require higher (closer) lens settings, but if it's an achromatic lens it's not obvious. We might have to ask the lens assembly manufacturer.

But, PDAF is based on parallax / defocus, so I'd hope it would correct itself using feedback, and am a bit surprised that this hasn't happened! Perhaps either the required lens position is outside the normal range (in which case, an offset will help) or it's not detecting the phase. I have a suspicion that the GREEN pixels used for PDAF are not very sensitive to IR...

How close are the objects in the middle of the scene, and can you get a good IR image with a fixed lens position (if so, what value?)

For the bad scenario, it would be great if you could do a short capture or viewfinder, setting the environment variable below:

Code:

LIBCAMERA_LOG_LEVELS=RPiAf:0 rpicam-hello -t 10000
and paste the first 100 lines or so of the debug output (it is not necessary to attach a video).

Is it any better or worse with --autofocus-range full?
