Thanks for the replies! I asked the question because I was thinking if there would be a way to use the Pico-PIO-USB library to perform all of the USB related work (instead of the built in rp2040 USB controller logic) but still be able to use the USB Phy connector on the board.
Looking at the datasheet, I see a USBPHY_DIRECT Register, which seems to offer direct control of the pins on the USB Phy. Maybe it is possible to use Pico-PIO-USB to manage the USB protocol/bits/communication, while being able to use the on-board USB Phy connector instead of having to solder to GPIO pins to get DP and DM, like currently recommended for Pico-PICO-USB.
