I definitely understand this system, but my grandparents are so used to the dish remote they look at every other remote as a foreign alien device, and its understandable i dont judge them i just havent had a simple fix for them that isnt going to take some time.A few years ago I tossed out my FiOS TV service (monthly cost was even MORE than your parent's dish subscription) but of course kept the FiOS internet and bought an Apple TV device. It cost less than one month of your parent's dish subscription and then the monthly cost for the device is US$0.00No its the stupid dish, they know how to use it but the dish company has increased their bill 6 times the last year, it went from like $120 a month to $222 a month they are spending over $2,664.00 a year on dish. If dish would quit increasing their price they would probably stop going under but the money they keep increasing is too expensive. And making my grandparents who have been with them since i was around 12 years old pay more and more the longer they have been with them is ridiculous. Now i understand the Streaming providers and tv manufacturers also create devices without the idea of grandparents in mind, the choice that im looking at that will be cheaper will be finding a way around the incapability to use the streaming services for my grandparents. And i want to let you know im not angry or mad, if it looks that way, i apologize im not trying to spund that way. I do appreciate your input.
Again, it's not the 'stupid dish' IMHO but the lack of providers understanding how to support seniors.
There are several services such as Hulu, Sling, YoutubeTV, etc that provide streaming aggregation and nearly replicate the dish services in terms of having a wide variety of channels, and a guide for surfing through them. Endlessly. Just like the good old dish or cable box.
At the moment the base cost for these aggregation services is less than US$100, so big savings for your parents.
Besides the cost savings, the Apple TV and apps are pretty easy to use, and very responsive. Just like us old folks want
