working assumption is that you're using https://www.waveshare.com/1.69inch-lcd-module.htm
Question is how you're driving the display!
In viewtopic.php?t=139983&start=450#p2199843 you will find overlays (for two orientations) as well as the data to be added to config.txt.
Simply change the 'backlight-gpio' to a free GPIO.
Note: that's just ON/OFF control. If you want to dimm you will have to define the backlight as backlight_pwm as described in https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/bl ... 1-L3420C46
