General discussion • Re: Any chance of a 16GB Raspberry Pi?

I just got my 8Gb rpi5. I don't see the point in a 16Gb version. I can't realistically get this rpi5 to break wrt memory. I compile stuff a lot. It's a nice balance between cpu/ram. Contrast with my new PC (64Gb ram) which failed randomly on my "qt build". I caught the gcc linker using 7.9Gb. I had only factored 2Gb per x86 core. Had it not been for the gpu shortage (I spent it on ram) my PC would have had only 32Gb. The PC has 16 cores so even 128Gb ram would be pushing it.

The solution, of course, was to apply some intelligence to the situation. Figure out where the linker collision was (Hint: -DLLVM_PARALLEL_LINK_JOBS=1).

Much less sober now due to next door's cat. It's a clone of our previous one and thinks it lives here. In order to not fall out with ye olde neighbours we blocked up our cat flap. Cyclops (its name) has now taken it upon himself to sit on our wheelie bin awaiting one of us to throw rubbish into said wheelie bin, at which point he leaps in through the door at hip height. He's purring before he hits the deck then scampers off to hide. Our house is a building site so it's a bugger to find him. Only way is food - catch 22.

I'll leave it to readers to figure out the reason behind his name.

I think I'll crash out now. It was last year when I started this post. Image may be NSFW.
