There are protection diodes on the ground.
What kind of diodes are you using?

Am I correct that this is simply a parallel capacitor to the diode with a maximum capacitance of 400pF?

I suspected it, but I did not think that the effect could be so significant.

If so, that would nicely explain the line capacitance that another commenter above estimated at ~1nF.

So what better way to protect the lines?
