Raspberry Pi OS • Re: Setup WiFi ad-hoc network

Im working on a project that uses two rpi zero 2s running the latest version of raspberry pi os 64bit lite. Both pis need to communicate using UDP and this must be as reliable as possible. Since they are both mobile I cannot connect them via ethernet. I think setting up my own network without one as a hotspot would be best, so in ad-hoc mode. Also since im using ssh for development and debugging, I need to still be able to access them over a lan adapter. It would be great if this would give the network internet access too.
The issue is i haven't found much information on using nmcli to set them both up to use infrastructure less ad-hoc mode. I dont need to use nmcli, but im assuming this is probably the newest and easiest way to set it up.

I think setting up my own network without one as a hotspot would be best, so in ad-hoc mode.

I don't know what 'ad-hoc' mode implies, specifically.

I think all RPi Zero2 boards are RPi Zero 2 W? If you were prepared to set up your own network WITH one RPiZero2W as a hotspot then the Raspberry Pi documentation might be relevant -
