What OS are you using because this behaviour doesn't make much sense. Not port is chosen, the system detects which port(s) have something attached and will simply use that port. It could be the hotplug detect on your monitor or cable? Does the error go away with a different display device? Have you tried a different cable?Since i got my pi4b 8gb (soon after they were released), it has always randomly selected one of the two HDMI ports to output on each time i boot it. There seems to be neither rhyme nor reason as to which one is selects. It's not tragic, but it is mildly annoying that i have to switch the HDMI plug to the other port half of the time that it's rebooted.
To the best of my knowledge, my 4gb pi4b does not do that, but it's also 100% headless so it doesn't really matter. My 8gb model, though, occasionally acts as a backup workstation.
Can someone explain (A) why this happens and (B) how to get it to consistently select one port or the other? i have zero use for two HDMI ports, so do not at all mind permanently disabling one (how?), so long as the pi won't randomly select the disabled one half of the time.
PS: it goes without saying that this falls into the category of #FirstWorldProblems.
