General discussion • Re: Does it make sense to make a laptop with Raspberry Pi 5?

Can those who use laptops or like the idea of a Pi laptop explain why a Pi laptop would be better than any other laptop - other than being cheaper if it were ?

The main benefit I can see is being able to work on Raspberry Pi OS, Pi GPIO hardware, or RP2040 projects, when away from home. While that's great as an alternative to watching mind-numbing TV or turning alcoholic in a hotel bar, being bored on a train, I wouldn't have thought such people make for a large market.

I do most of my Raspberry Pi and RP2040 development headless from a Windows desktop PC, would likely be fine with a Windows laptop or Chromebook, plus a Pi and whatever I need slipped in a bag.

I can see some benefit for those lugging a Pi around in outreach programmes, but would suspect most have a vehicle to use as a rucksack and would be better off with a Pi 400 and monitor.
For me; lower power consumption would be a big benefit. I have a couple of old intel based netbooks. I've contemplated taking the motherboard out of one and replacing it with a Pi5...
The lack of a functional "sleep/suspend/hibernate" state may make the actual "useful" battery life of a Pi solution lower than said netbook. I can get multiday use, when used intermittently, out of a netbook without having to shut it completely down. Potentially we are talking different generations since my current reference point is SnapDragon based.
I specifically said.."INTEL based". Snapdragon is ARM...just like the Pi.

PI already has some power saving features. There have been several discussions on here about how to disable it!

Here is an article about power management on PI.

So...why do you think that you couldn't build power management into a Pi ARM based solution??
