microSD cards can be more than fake and unreliable. One of the major brands promoted on Amazon failed the V30 test. V30 is supposed to be 30 MBps writing continuously for video. That should guarantee fast writes for recording TV. No. The card failed my V30 test. Maintained V30 for only a minute or so. At least the return and refund was quick and easy.
For an SSD, you can peel off the label to see the chips used. Judge the SSD based on the actual hardware, not the brand on the label pasted over the chips. Not possible with microSD.
Flash memory needs an independent speed and reliability test. I do speed tests. Now that I have a spare Pi 4/5 with the 50 MBps microSD slot, I might test a card. See what happens. Continuous writes 24/7 forever.
