Keep everything under a layer of liquid flux at all times, basic rule of SMT rework. Then pins don't oxidize and become unwettable.

Don't mix solder types, the RP2040 will be lead-free solder of course.
I don't have lead free solder, I thought you could use the lead stuff. I can get some if I need it.
I find Mr SolderFix's YouTube videos to be the clearest and simplest explanations for all things soldering related. For QFN rework, I would check out this video:

That's a great video, I've watch other videos where they fix things the one guy always seems to melt something so I see not everyone is perfect and what they do wrong so I can avoid that.

The one thing he mentioned the video was tape but he doesn't use any. My brother is lending me his hot air station and Kapton tape. I've seen people use a bit of foil to protect plastic parts I do have one near the RP2040 I need to protect.
