Troubleshooting • Re: Operating system questions

Ah reddit the almost unmoderated home of misinforamtion and opinion. And the occasional nugget of truth.
  1. The recommended OS for all Pi models is Raspberry Pi OS. It's also the best supported especially by the volunteers on here (like me)
  2. .iso files (and their percieved size limit - which is, I believe untrue) are irrelevant as are .tar.gz files. .img is the format you need and no, rename a .iso to a .img won't change that.
  3. A tar.gz file may work but only if it contains an apropriate disc image.
  4. The size of the .iso is largely irrelevant after installation - partition(s) get resized to the available storage hardware.
  5. Judging by https://artixlinux.org/download.php only x86-64 hardware is supported. Pi do not use x86 processors.
  6. Void appears to have image files for various Pi but given the date of them they are unlikely to support the Pi 5.
  7. IIRC Arch has support for the Pi.
