Raspberry Pi 400 • Re: Pi400 Bookworm No Audio

The log shows the issue. First the firmware fails to read the edid:

Code:

005267.891: HDMI:EDID bad checksum 241 in block 0 retries: 0
then the kernel fails to read the edid:

Code:

[ 3.310211] EDID block 0 (tag 0x00) checksum is invalid, remainder is 59
This is a hardware fault. Probably from the TV.

If the TV has other hdmi sockets it may be worth trying them.
If you have another TV you can try, confirm it doesn't have the edid error messages, and that audio works.

Without a valid edid, we can't be sure what resolutions and audio formats the TV supports.

You could try following advice in this post.
But that is just guessing that your display supports 1080p60 with basic audio.
Hi Dom,

Thanks for the suggested way forward. I put the file in the correct place and put updated the cmdline.txt. It looks like it sorted the resolution out however, I can't change it to different resolution (i'm guessing this is because of what was set in the cmdline.txt file) but there is still no audio/volume icon on the taskbar and still no audio from the HDMI. On HDMI1 on the TV it says 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.

I have had this TV working in the past. With my Raspberry pi 2B I get both audio and video out of it using my retropie so I know the TV is working with that Pi. I believe I have had it working with this Pi400 on an older distro but I've since updated it and run from a Picture only Monitor. I have got an external USB sound device that I can plug speakers into but without a volume control icon appearing on the taskbar, no audio device can be chosen. Like I explained before, using the raspi-config screen I can't access S2 Audio under system options either, it just boots me back to the raspi-config front screen.

Anything I can try?

Regards,

Brett

EDIT: Just tried it with RISC OS OPEN on the same PI400 on the same TV and I'm getting sound out of it straight away when playing a game on it.
