Networking and servers • Re: Using a Raspberry Pi with SAS HDDs?

...
Those cables and interposers are for attaching a SATA drive to a SAS HBA. The cables don't work in reverse as SATA support is an optional feature for SAS HBAs.
This one (sorry for the Amazon link) states its SAS to SATA as long as the controller supports it https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-S ... B000V72AQ4

As for the enclosures - my bad as the enclosure I looked at supported two SAS drives separately from the SATA ones and needed a HBA in the computer for these (stupid design).

No matter what way you go - it's going to be messy compared to a traditional case / server build for "home" users - even the HP Gen 10 MicroServer V2 has gone for 4 non-hot plug SATA drive bays.
